Numerical Investigation of Shock Tube Flow under Rarefied Conditions
نویسنده
چکیده
Two-dimensional Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) simulations are carried out for investigating the shock wave propagation and boundary layer effects in a shock tube flow, for a wide range of rarefied conditions. Nitrogen is used for all simulations. The Cercignani-Lampis-Lord (CLL) model of gas surface interactions is implemented to study the effects of boundary layer which develops behind the moving shock front. The effect of surfaces is analyzed with different tangential momentum accommodation coefficient (TMAC) values in the CLL model. The Larsen-Borgnakke (LB) model of inelastic collisions is implemented for diatomic gases. The shock front deceleration and the contact surface acceleration phenomena due to viscous effects are studied. The simulation at higher Knudsen number flows shows disappearance of the shock front and the contact surface.

Numerical Study of Hypersonic Rarefied-Gas Flows About a Toroidal Ballute
Hypersonic flows of nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and carbon dioxide near a toroidal ballute have been investigated numerically using the Direct Simulation Monte-Carlo technique under transition rarefied-gas flow conditions (Knudsen numbers from 0.005 to 10). Strong influences of the geometrical factor (a ratio of the distance between the axis of symmetry and the torus disk center, and the torus rad...
متن کاملComputational Study on Micro Shock Tube Flows with Gradual Diaphragm Rupture Process
Gas flows through micro shock tubes are widely used in many engineering applications such as micro engines, particle delivery devices etc. Recently, few studies have been carried out to explore the shock wave excursions through micro shock tubes at very low Reynolds number and at rarefied gas condition. But these studies assumed centered shock and expansion waves, which are generally produced b...
متن کاملExperimental and Numerical Simulation Investigation on Crushing Response of Foam-Filled Conical Tubes Stiffened with Annular Rings
In this paper, crashworthiness characteristics of conical steel tubes stiffened by annular rings and rigid polyurethane foam are investigated. For this purpose, wide circumferential rings are created from the outer surface of the conical tube at some determined areas along tube length. In fact, this method divides a long conical tube into several tubes of shorter length. When this structure is ...
متن کاملRarefied gas dynamics and its applications to vacuum technology
Basic concepts of rarefied gas dynamics are given in a concise form. Some problems of rarefied gas flows are considered, namely, calculations of velocity slip and temperature jump coefficients, gas flow through a tube due to pressure and temperature gradients, and gas flow through a thin orifice. Results on the two last problems are given over the whole range of gas rarefaction. A methodology f...
متن کاملAnalytical and Numerical Investigation of Effective Parameters on Energy Absorption Circular Composite Tube under Internal Pressure and Axial
In this paper the energy absorption capacity of stiffened circular composite tube is considered. The governing equations and dynamic equilibrium are first derived and then solved. Additionally, a finite element model of reinforced circular composite tube structure is modeled. At the following, the effects of various parameters such as structural geometry, number of rings and stingers on mechani...
